We have been waiting for weeks – don’t know where they went to before they finally found their way to our door…

I’m speaking of a huge shipment of new, very very nice papier mâché masks from Gallery Istaba in Riga.

The masks are created by Yevgeniya Kilupe, born 1938. Yevgeniya lives in Tezekne in eastern Latvia. While her talent for modelling and painting is indisputable, her career as artist started late – after retirement Yevgeniya decided to make some money to supplement her pension, and when selling her masks at a marketplace in the town Latgale, a representative from the gallery Istaba spotted her, and I spotted her in Gallery Istaba.
